The separate post does mean those entries posted later can be put forward. Please leave a comment below or tweet me @theheadsoffice

One of Team100WC commented that this was a wonderful week for pieces of great writing and that they felt as though they had won the lottery with so many fabulous things to read! That of course meant that the Showcase was even more difficult than usual! There will be more on show at Lend Me your Literacy so do pop over!

Welcome to the first 100 Word Challenge of this year! It promises to be a great year with lots of brilliant prompts to help with your writing.

If this is your first challenge then please read ‘New Year! Join In!’ which should have all the information you need. If you are still not sure what to do, leave a comment below, email me using the contact form or tweet me @100word.

Note for teachers: Please make sure that each child who has a piece posted visits at least TWO other entries. It is excellent training for commenting and spreads the motivation of sharing creative writing.

The first prompt is:

…. looking behind me, I saw …

You have 100 words plus the 5 in the prompt. Really think hard about the words you use and don’t forget to make your pieces as exciting and creative as possible.

The link will open at midnight and stay open until 9pm (GMT+1) on Tues 18th September. Please make sure you link the URL of the individual post not the blog. The video in ‘How to Enter the Challenges explains really well.

Good luck everyone and let’s get writing and sharing!
